Many of the issues that women commonly deal with may benefit from homeopathic treatment.
Rather than just treating individual symptoms, homeopathy treats the root cause of the symptoms; thereby the person can be gradually healed and the symptoms gradually disappear. With successful treatment, the patient becomes more resilient to life’s challenges so that the symptoms are less likely to occur in the future. As homeopathic treatment is for the whole person, taking into account each patient’s physical, mental and emotional traits for each state of illness, 2 women with a particular symptom will not necessarily require the same medicine.
The remedies described in this article are useful to have around for acute issues, ideally when working with a homeopath who, through their training, has the knowledge required for appropriate and safe dosing of these remedies. It is also possible for someone who is not a homeopath to learn how to use these medicines safely and effectively for first aid. See the book reference at the end of this article (not an endorsement to purchase, just good information about how to treat common ailments with homeopathy)
The following are some women’s health issues that homeopathy can help to heal:
*Menstruation associated troubles such as pain, abnormal flow, bloating, irritability and mood swings
*Fibroids
*Symptoms associated with perimenopause (the few years leading up to menopause) or menopause – hot flashes, sleep problems, irritability, mood swings and low libido.
*Bladder and yeast infections.
*Infertility – Because homeopathy can make a woman healthier overall, it can make her much more likely to conceive.
There is a very wide range of remedies which can be used for women’s health issues. Three of the most well known ones are Sepia, Pulsatilla and Lachesis.
Sepia is made from the ink of a cuttlefish and women who need it are often tired from all the things that they feel they need to do including taking care of people or they can have a feeling of oppression. They can be workaholics who push themselves very hard and then get irritable with and speak harshly to the people that mean the most to them. Uterine prolapse and brown or yellow facial discolouration are 2 of the symptoms frequently reported by these patients.
A woman needing Pulsatilla, which is made from a lovely purple flower that grows in sandy soil, is very different from this; being gentle and yielding is strongly associated with this remedy, and these people try not to create or engage in conflict. Being highly emotional and prone to frequent mood changes as well as a tendency to cry easily are also characteristic of Pulsatilla women. They are typically thirstless, better from gentle motion, worse from fats and like to have their feet out from under the covers when they are sleeping.
Lachesis is made from the venom of the Bushmaster Snake, the largest pit viper on the American continents. Although the venom in its original state is quite poisonous, the remedy made from it is non-toxic because it is highly diluted and given in micro-doses. Women for whom Lachesis is suitable are often jealous, suspicious and vindictive. Other characteristics associated with Lachesis are being very talkative, jumping from one subject to another in conversation, symptoms being worse on the left side of the body, before menstrual flow and at menopause, bleeding black blood, difficulty swallowing liquids as opposed to solids, and a dislike for their throat or neck being touched.
These remedy pictures are just a small subset of the entire spectrum of characteristics associated with each of these medicines, and many more aspects of a person must be carefully considered before prescribing. A homeopath is looking for the remedy with associated characteristics most similar to the symptoms of the patient; not all of the characteristics associated with the remedy need to be present in the patient. With careful attention to all the unique details about a person, the correct homeopathic medicine can activate a patient’s self healing response and gradually over time the need for the medicine is greatly diminished or eliminated.
